It is common for the numbers of requests and statistics to not match. This is normal because each section measures different things.
Requests are the technical calls made to the service and they are the ones used to calculate the consumption of your plan. They can be checked in the Finder Dashboard.
Statistics, on the other hand, show aggregated data about how the search engine is used, such as searches and sessions. They can be found in the Statistics section. This page includes help tooltips that explain in more detail how each metric is calculated.
Why there are more requests than searches #
Requests include all the calls the search engine needs to function in real time.
For example, when a user types a search like “toy”, the system may process several requests while the user is typing:
- “to”
- “toy”
- “toys”
The system tries to group searches that happen very close in time so that they count as a single search in the statistics. Even so, the number of requests depends largely on how fast the user types.
In addition, interactions with filters or changes to the results also generate new requests, even though they are still part of the same search in the statistics.
What is a session #
Each session corresponds to a user who has used the search engine in your store.
If a user stops interacting with the search engine for a period of time and later uses it again, the system registers it as a new session.
